Our Mission
Canticle Singers celebrates and empowers women by developing their vocal artistry and cultivating musical excellence. Through the musical exploration and performance of diverse choral literature at the highest level, we seek to engage and elevate our audience, create a vibrant community, and joyfully unite in our shared humanity.
We Believe
- Music unifies.
- Music is healing, uplifting, and restorative.
- Music stretches the audience and performers alike by challenging their intellect and nourishing their souls.
Our Vision
As members of Canticle Singers, we seek to widen our membership and audience base as an inclusive, welcoming, and affirming multi-generational group. This would include recruitment of high school women who are committed to choral singing, commissioning new works by and for women, hosting festivals for other female choirs, and engaging in more multi-media collaborations.
Our History
The Canticle Singers, first incorporated in 1987 as the Chrysalis Singers, has grown from a non-auditioned community chorus into a professional-level women’s chamber choir. Although not all members are professional singers, all are accomplished musicians, who continue to refine their skills through private lessons and vocal performances.
Highlighting compositions and textual settings by women composers and poets, the ensemble performs music from medieval to modern so that each audience member can come away with a favorite moment. Whether featured in concert series or in community outreach venues, Canticle Singers brings a consistently high level of artistry and joy to music-making that inspires and challenges audience members and singers alike.
